prepare for the longest post for the smallest room in history...
When we moved into our home this past July this room was the dining room.
But, since I wanted to seat lots of people I switched the dining room to the living room.
Now we have a good size dining room and this little room we call the den.
this room used to look like this
yes, very red.
But with a little time, and even less money it has become one of my favorite rooms in the house.
it's perfect for morning time, when the kids first wake up.
they grab a juice or whatever and head to the den. {it's right next to the kitchen, which you may never see pictures of}
love this little table, which I found in the trash and painted white.
The lamp base was also a trash find, with a shade left over from the previous homeowners {cover in burlap with hot glue}.
I'm currently addicted to these little flowers which I learn how to make from Emily at
Jones Design Company.
see, teeny
this was the original dining room chandelier. I spayed it black satin
{while it was still hung}
shades 99 cents from Lowes with clothesline trim
Armoire from my son's room in our other house.
yes, another trash find {4 of them}
Grocery sign my girls made with sharpie markers
You can see a peek of red wall paper below the sign from before the bead board was installed.
{Painting over wallpaper is a whole 'nother post people}
Brown ticking panels, now living their 3rd round of life in a whole new spot.
Soft seagrass-ish rug I just snagged at IKEA for a steal.
{but for reason of "creative financing" I'm pleading the 5th on the actual cost}
Green shutters I love, and yes, found in the trash.
{I think I might need to start a service where I drive people around on trash days and show them all the good trash spots, right?}

You shop in the trashiest of neighborhoods, and I must confess my jealousy!! What wonderful finds and transformations!! Keep dumpster diving!
I love the way you pulled this room together! Nicely done!
Your family room is so beautiful! You'd certainly never guess from looking at it that so many things vame from the trash, lol! I really admire all of your creativity. Such a lovely, lovely, room!!
Love this! I just covered a lamp shade in my dining room with burlap and LOVE! Now on to new curtains. I love your ticking and my have to steal that idea.
This room i sso cozy!
It looks awesome. I love the shutters next to the window. It looks so homie (not sure how one spells that) Great job.

I am in love with those green shutters, the brown ticking window panels, and your new rug. Do you recall the name of the rug?? I may just have to go on a road trip one of these days....:)
Now that might be a small room but it has HUGE personality!! I can't narrow down what to tell you I love the most about it because I just love it all! I'd love to know what your paint color is...???

So gorgeous. I love the rustic, comfortable, soothing feel your room has. I was falling in love with your rug then when I read it was from IKEa I got super excited cause that's the same rug I'm about to put down in my bedroom. I love it!
Love the slipcover chair , the whole room is perfect!
That is the cutest room I've seen in a while. What makes it even MORE special is how you pulled it together with your talent & imagination! Thanks for posting!
I can see why this would be a favorite spot to hang out in, it has so much charm. I love it.

WOW!! I fell in love with just one glance! I love what you did with the walls and the planking on the bottom. We need to replace some of our sheetrock on the bottom in our den and this would be perfect! Do you still have the name of what color you painted the top? It's lovely. Thanks for sharing!!
Teeny room but SO useful!!! I feel like our living room is a decent size but the space is horribly laid out and not usable! AT ALL!
Awesome. You did fantastic!! I really want that rug!! Like a lot... I'm going to go try and find it ;)
Oh my gosh. I seriously am in love with this room! I would so be in there everyday, all day! Great work. :) (Found you via Remodelaholic.)
What a great transformation! Your room looks beautiful! Visiting via Remodelaholic.
That room is awesome. I love all the fun details. And I'm trying really hard not to be jealous about all your trash finds.
I love that little table too, and I get all my best finds out of the trash too. Seriously, people come in and say- oh, I love your _____ , where did you get it? And most of the time the answer is the curb. Kind of embarassing but oh well! People just get rid of really nice stuff around where I live! In fact, people leave stuff out early on purpose so it can get picked up, so I guess it's not really trash, it's more like an ongoing town swap, or yardsale but free, so perfect for my budget! I don't even bother going to yard sales anymore.
Take care!
Elisabeth
Beautiful, comfy room. I love it!
How pretty! Love the white little table you found in the trash! :)
fabulous room. you found so many great stuff from the trash!
You have a lovely, inviting home and I just have to know where you got that brown and white ticking. I have been searching high and low for some and can't seem to find any at a good price. Would you mind sharing your source?

This is a great transformation! I'm a new follower (via remodelaholic)!
the colors and materials used in the room are great...the big sofa however, seems a bit off right there. Why not place it in the center of the window (white table and lamp on one side and birdcage on the other)?
Wow, your home is amazing! I love the colours and the details - just my style... so beautiful!!
I love this! I also love your couch...where did you get it? I'm on the hunt and I love that yours doesn't have back cushions that can get squished down over time.
